Welcome to the Economic Census 2023 (BE 2023) Portal. 

Economic Census is one of the most important statistical activities carried out by most countries around the world including Malaysia. Economic Census is conducted every five years and is a full count of all "business establishments" and "non-profit organizations" in Malaysia. In Malaysia there are 1,133 industry codes covered consisting of Services (604 industries), Manufacturing (259 industries), Agriculture (142 industries), Construction (72 industries) and Mining and Quarrying (56 industries). 

Economic Census provides information to evaluate and monitor government policies in addition to meeting the needs of data requests by various parties including government and private agencies. Among information collected are income, output, expenditure, number of employees and salaries & wages. In addition, other information collected are ownership, capital expenditure, access to financing, innovation and research, import and export, environmental protection expenditure and technology, electric vehicle industry, drone industry and e-sports.

The 2023 Economic Census is the fifth census carried out since 2001. It starts from April 2023 until 30 September 2023. The 2023 Economic Census introduces online questionnaire (e-BE). This will certainly make it easier for all establishments to provide the information required in this Economic Census. In addition, other data collection methods used are mail and interviews (face to face or by telephone). The information from the Economic Census will also be uploaded into OpenDOSM NextGen so that it can be easily accessed and widely used.
